Brief overview of the current instructional materials committee review:
- State-adopted instructional materials for ELA/ELD programs at grades K-8 were requested from the publishers for committee review.
- Teachers, administrators, parents, community members, and central office curriculum staff were invited to participate in the review process and committees were developed in November/December of 2019. Classroom teachers are the only voting committee members when it comes to recommending a program for board approval.
- A scoring rubric was developed by the committee chairs and discussed with each committee member at the preliminary meeting.
- 30 minute publisher presentations were presented to each committee on December 19.
- Following presentations, committee members met, determined next steps in the process, and were provided instructional materials for independent review.
- Each voting member will submit their scoring rubric to the committee chairs by January 28th and the data will be compiled prior to the final selection meeting scheduled for January 30.
- The committees will reconvene as a whole on January 30 to review the scoring rubrics, continue discussion on the programs being considered for adoption, and come to consensus on a final selection for recommendation to the Board for adoption.
The following state-adopted programs are being reviewed by committee.
