Highlights

Highlight #1:

The first ever Special Olympics Track and Field School Games for middle school students was held at Pershing middle school this year. A total of 100 students from seven middle schools (Bell, CPMA, Innovation, Lewis, Pershing, Taft, and Whittier) came to compete in the event. Staff members from Southern California Special Olympics and San Diego Unified School District were excited about the success of the partnership and event that took place.

Highlight #2:

San Diego Unified School District and Southern California partnered this year to hold the first Young Athletes Festival at Clairemont high school. Moderate to Severe and General Education students from nine elementary schools from across the district (Marshall, Rosa Parks, Sessions, Alcott, Bay Park, Miller, Pacific View, Perry, and Whittier) gathered together for the culminating event after implementing the new collaborative young athletes program at their schools all year. The program is designed to introduce students with and without disabilities to sports skills and play activities that foster physical, cognitive, and social development.
